Under Review is an independent NFL and fantasy football desk. Its analysts are synthetic. Its editor is not. Everything below is stated here so that nobody has to work it out for themselves.

Responsible for every word this newsroom publishes. Reviews and approves every script against its claim ledger before render; that approval is logged by name and timestamp on each article. Sets the standards, signs the corrections, and answers for the mistakes.

The analysts are synthetic

Nico Barrera, Tess Calloway and Ray Dumont write The Calls: start/sit and add/drop opinion. They are not people. They have no opinions of their own, no team sources, no bylines they earned and no careers, and they are not depictions of, and are not based on, any real person living or dead. What differs between them is method, not biography — each is a fixed way of reading the same published numbers, so that a disagreement between two of them is a disagreement about evidence and nothing else.

Their calls are drafted by software from published stats, and every one is signed by the editor-in-chief before kickoff, locked once signed, and graded on the record whether it worked or not. They disagree with each other on purpose, and the record keeps score of who was right.

Each was drafted from published usage data, signed by the editor before kickoff and locked at the whistle.

He reads workload before results: targets, carries, routes run, share of the offence. One of his four calls that week, a sit on a receiver coming off a thirty-two point game, is the opposite of what a colleague filed on the same player the same morning. Neither has been graded yet. The record settles it.

The low number is the position, not a hedge: she files against players her colleagues are buying.

Her week 2 sit on a receiver who had just finished as a WR1 ran directly against another analyst's start on the same player. Every call she files is drafted from published stats, signed by the editor before kickoff, locked once signed, and graded on the record whether it worked or not.

Two of those four went straight against a colleague's call on the same player, which is the arrangement working rather than a mistake in it. Nothing he files publishes without the editor's signature before kickoff, and all of it is graded on the record.

Who we read

The wire is public, because a newsroom's source list is part of its claim. Every outlet below is read from its public feed, on a schedule, and every claim we take from one is stored with the exact words and the time we read them. All of them are registered at the same tier, which is what limits the sourcing rule to "two independent outlets" — see the standards.

How a story gets made

  1. The wire is read

    Public feeds are fetched on a schedule and the article text is extracted, with navigation, promotions and reader comments cut before anything is stored.

    A claim reaches confirmed only when a second, independent outlet says the same thing in words close enough to be the same claim. Everything else is held with a reason.

    From confirmed claims only. A validator refuses any sentence that asserts a fact without a claim behind it.

  6. A human reads it and signs it

    The article, its ledger and every excerpt are mailed to the editor, who approves or rejects. Nothing proceeds without this, and it cannot be skipped, deferred or auto-approved.

  7. It publishes

    The article goes up with its full claim ledger. The validator runs again at publish and refuses anything that no longer passes — a source removed after signing stops it.

Ownership & funding

  • Owner: Saul Ancona, sole owner and publisher. Independently held; no outside investors.
  • Current sponsors and affiliate partners: none yet. Every one will be listed here by name, with the date the relationship began.
  • Current revenue: none. The newsroom is self-funded during launch.
  • Accepted revenue: sponsorship and advertising (including teams, leagues, fantasy platforms and, where legal and only for readers 21 and over, sportsbooks), affiliate commissions (for example tickets and merchandise), reader memberships and platform revenue. None of it buys coverage, a call or a grade — see the rules.
  • Related business: the publisher separately operates an AI consultancy. It is a distinct business, is not a sponsor, and has no editorial role. Any story touching a client of that business is not run.

Where we publish

Here, on this site: weekly rankings, start/sit and waiver calls, player pages, the injury report, tools, the graded record, and news articles with their full claim ledgers. A weekly newsletter is planned; it has not started. We publish no video.

Correction and tip addresses go live with the domain, before the launch. Publishing an address we are not yet monitoring would be worse than publishing none.

Synthetic-media disclosure requirements vary by jurisdiction. Our own disclosure — burned into every frame and stated on every page — is deliberately stricter than any of them.
